Houston TASO Baseball Umpires Association
The Texas Association of Sports Officials (TASO) is an association approved by the University Interscholastic League (UIL) and Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) to officiate high school games in Texas.
The Houston Chapter of TASO-Baseball (HTASO) has approximately 300 umpires that are authorized to umpire high school baseball games in Harris and surrounding counties where there are approximately 165 high schools that play approximately 4,500 games at the varsity and sub varsity level.
Steps To Become An Umpire
To umpire with the Houston Chapter of TASO Baseball, the first step is to join TASO and sign up for the Houston Chapter Umpire School.
Joining TASO is done online at www.TASO.org and cost $40 the first year. The state dues include liability insurance coverage. There is currently no charge to attend the umpire school other than paying the $25 local chapter dues and a one-time $35 pre-scheduling fee ($100 total – $40 to TASO and $60 to HTASO).
The $35 pre-scheduling fee is held in escrow by the Houston Chapter and is returned to the member when the official leaves the Chapter if in good standing with the Scheduler.
