Scholarship Application Information
In 2023, the TASO-Houston Baseball Umpires Scholarship Foundation, Inc. will be awarding scholarships to outstanding high school seniors from the greater Houston area.
To be considered for a scholarship, high school seniors must meet the following qualifications:
- The graduating senior must be a member of a varsity baseball team (players, student trainers, or player managers may apply);
- The graduating seniors’ school must use umpires from the Houston TASO Baseball Chapter for home games;
- The graduating senior must enroll in a 2-year or 4-year accredited college or university for the fall semester following graduation from high school. (Note: All scholarships monies are required to be taken within two years);
- The graduating senior must disclose all other scholarships awarded to him or her. (Failure to disclose may result in disqualification);
- The graduating senior must be willing to attend the awards presentation in June 2023, should they be selected;
- Each applicant must submit an essay of no more than two typed pages, double-spaced, stating why he or she deserves the scholarship. We cannot stress enough the importance of the applicants clearly delineating any circumstances that would help the members of this committee strictly, yet sympathetically, evaluate the applications. This essay is not the time for students to be modest or shy. We need to know of acute need, staggering intelligence, or burning enthusiasm.
- It is also required that the applicant submit no less than three letters of recommendation. One letter must be from their varsity baseball coach; another must come from a teacher or counselor. The final letter must be from someone not affiliated with any school district.
If you are eligible for this scholarship, please submit the online application and provide ALL requested documentation to the Scholarship Committee at applicants@HoustonTASOScholarships.com once the application status is open in 2023. The scholarship committee will review all applications by the end of May. The scholarship winners will be contacted and awarded the scholarship in June at a date and time to be determined.
It is highly recommended to have the school counselor review the material. Email the completed application, high school transcript, letters of recommendation, and essay by the deadline in order to be considered. We look forward to hearing from you!
